So why is a guide important? Why is it important to develop spiritually? The benefits of meditation are a science in themselves. One can use developed meditative practices, such as Kundalini, in which the intense energy at the base of the spine is unlocked and unleashed into the crown. Then, there is Reiki, developed in Japan, which allows one to utilize a life-force known as Ki for the practice of meditative healing.

Different teachers teach differing meditative mechanisms: all however carry the underlying principle- progress towards complete enlightenment. With the strong foundation of meditation, one can teach the mind to do wondrous things- lucid dreaming, out of body experiences, and the ecstasies of trance are some such documented phenomena. There are other such things science is yet to understand, such as Ki-healing, opening of the third-eye, past-life regression trances, prophetic trance, or gaining of important knowledge in dreams.

The mind is the most complex thing we know of in all the universe, when all its power is controlled and focused onto a single aspect, the possibilities are remarkable. It is for this reason, it is important to gain knowledge from one who is already well versed in these practices. Sometimes these guides come from a very ancient school of thought, some may have discovered knowledge themselves, or may have learned from one who is so. How do you know which guide to choose? This is entirely dependent on you as a person. You may take the spiritual path from where you stand, for the destination will invariably be the same.

But one should choose a guide who encourages one to dissolve their ego- for only such a guide can lead one to the truth.
