“In the beginning, there was the word. And the word was with God, and the word was god.” John 1:1
For any reader of the Holy Bible, these words might be familiar. And in fact, for millions across the world who have never read the Bible, the same rings true. In fact, the invocation of the primordial word, from and one with a supreme consciousness, seems almost a universal phenomenon, across civilizations and beliefs throughout the world.
And we find the teachings of a primordial word, and of a kingdom within, as the underlying message of great humans throughout history: from the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth, to the Neo-Platonist sages of the ancient west, from the ancient prophets of Israel to the wild-haired Sufis of the Muslim world, from the Kebatian mystics of South-East Asia to the numberless monks, seers and reformers of the Indian subcontinent. The fundamental message: see through the illusions of the material and political world, seek deep within one’s heart, and unlock the blissful truth of the word within one’s own self. In today’s time, we know this practice by the universal English term; “Meditation”.
Through this blog, I would like to highlight various mystics, seekers and guides throughout the world’s history who have been proponents for this practice. In addition, I would also like to highlight my own life experiences with this phenomenon.
